Cybersecurity: plants grinding to a halt and damage in the physical world
Standing in front of a Medici tower, which knows a thing or two about defense, I started thinking about cyber warfare. As an enthusiast, not an expert.
Compromised plants
I start from a story I heard: compromised refrigeration plants. Not stolen data, but machines shutting down and real damage in the physical world.
The problem is that security is often fragile. Default passwords, open access, the classic key under the doormat. And when we’re talking about infrastructure, the risk gets serious.
AI changes both attack and defense
Artificial intelligence brings opportunities for defenders, but it also raises questions: the same tools are available to attackers.
Risk
The comparison that came to mind was the board game Risk. In the game, the defender has an advantage: ties go to the defense. In cybersecurity it’s the opposite: the defender has to protect every attack surface, while the attacker only needs to find one.
That’s why networks need to be designed like castle walls, with multiple layers of protection.
These are personal hypotheses, open to discussion. If you work in security, tell me in the comments on the video (it’s in Italian) where you agree with me and where you’d correct me.
