Humanoid robots: I want one at home, but who's thinking about safety and jobs?
I grew up reading Asimov (here on the blog you’ll also find the Italian translation of The Last Question). A robot at home? I want one.
More time for what matters
A robot that cooks and takes care of the house would leave me more time for my kids, for the people I care about and for everything else. I really like the idea, and in a small way I’m already living it by training them while I fold laundry.
Safety
But before bringing a machine like that into my home, I want to talk about safety. Asimov had his three laws; what do we have? A robot moving around my kids has to be safe, and it has to be safe by design.
Jobs
Then there’s the fear of losing jobs. I don’t want to brush it off. I think of switchboard operators: a job that disappeared, and people had to reinvent themselves.
For me, we need training and support for those who will have to change careers during the transition. And the companies profiting from this transformation should help pay for it.
Positive, not naive
I’m an optimist, but being positive doesn’t mean being naive.
That’s my point of view, tell me yours in the comments on the video (it’s in Italian).
